Identity on the semantic web is an issue upon which is based the trust of information, our willingness to part with personal data (or not), the quality of engagement and uptake in social networks, the web we are building plus, something greater: the ability of the web to be mapped onto the real world and begin to erase the traditional barriers between online and offline. Plus we may just see the end of trolling.
Google has began to crack that problem. Its move away from authorship and the relaxation of the real names issue on G+ are the result of improvements it is making on its ability on this front. We’re not quite there yet but finally we are beginning to see that in the transparent semantic web everything matters, everything is connected and if you’re into trolling you’re on the endangered species list.
